About

About Fox Studios

The people behind Fox Studios, how each article about game development is put together, and what we will not publish.

The short version

What you are looking at is a working blog. Old pieces stay up in the archive rather than quietly disappearing, including the ones that have aged badly.

Fox Studios started as a private notebook. Somebody kept a record of what was worth the money and what was noise, and after a few years that notebook was more useful than most of what was published online.

About the name

People ask about the name. There is rarely a good story behind a domain, and there is not one here either. Fox Studios was available, it was short enough to say out loud, and it has been the name long enough now that changing it would be more confusing than keeping it.

The topics

  • Devlogs. Progress notes from real projects, what worked, what broke, and what we changed.
  • Projects. Finished and in-progress game builds, how they were made and what they taught us.
  • Tutorials. Step-by-step guides for beginners, from first script to a playable build.
  • Tools. The software, assets and workflows a small game studio actually uses.
  • Studio. How a small game studio runs day to day, from planning to release.
  • Community. Sharing work, getting feedback, and learning from other makers.
  • Games. Video games and gaming, from what we play to how games connect to the rest of life.

Nothing gets filed under three headings at once. If a piece does not have an obvious home, that usually means it has not been thought through yet. The busiest sections are devlogs, projects and tutorials.

Bylines

Every article carries the name of the person who wrote it, and every name links to a page listing everything else they have written.

Reyansh Dole, Founder and lead builder. Reyansh started making small games as a teenager and now writes the devlogs and tutorials here, focused on how beginners actually ship a first project.

Mira Kovac, Tutorials and tools writer. Mira teaches coding to beginners and writes the step-by-step guides, always testing each one on someone who has never coded before.

Diego Fenn, Projects and community writer. Diego covers finished builds and the community around them, and runs the feedback threads that shape what the studio makes next.

The method

Every piece here starts with a question somebody actually asked. If we cannot answer it from experience or from a source we can name, it does not get published.

We are independent. Nobody pays for a favourable mention, and the wording of an assessment does not change because a partner asked.

How claims get checked and how money is disclosed is written down separately, on the editorial policy page.

What we do not do

There are questions we routinely decline. Anything that depends on facts only you can see, and anything where being wrong would cost you real money on our say so.

Fixing mistakes

Corrections go to [email protected]. Quote the sentence rather than describing it. We would rather log a visible correction than edit a page and hope nobody noticed, and the contact page explains the rest.
